About Me
Makeup artistry has always been a passion of mine from an early age as far as I can remember. I have always been a girly girl and adored makeup from the moment I first set my eyes on my mom’s makeup artist kit.
Growing up as a child, pretend beauty pageants and music video’s with the cousin’s on family events was a regular occurrence and I think from then on my destiny as a makeup artist was already set in stone
Throughout high school, I was always confident that I would one day be a creative and successful makeup artist. With hard work, I went on to study at City Varsity in 2002 and achieved a qualification for a Diploma in Motion Picture Production Design (Art Direction) and Motion Picture Makeup. During this time I had the privilege of working for two reputable cosmetic houses namely Estee Lauder and Mac Cosmetics in both Cape Town and London, where I had the opportunity of being chosen as one of Claire Hanson Celebrity Makeup artist and Hairstylist assistants. This is where I really sharpened up my skills as I had the opportunity to work on so many different faces and skin tones.
As a qualified and experienced makeup artist and hairstylist for 16 years, I have worked with various major industry players on shoots, stills, commercials including Bridal Diary, Singh’s and Sons Advertising Agency, Heidi De Sousa Management, Rooi Rose, Samsung, SABC Expresso Breakfast show and Weekend Edition and various celebs such as Liezel van der Westhuizen, Patricia Delille, Michael Mol, Lira, Lyra, Suga (Heart 104.9fm)). This puts me steps ahead of my peers and assures clients of the ultimate in professional, innovative makeup artistry.
Over the years I have found a passion for bridal makeup and hairstyling and began to focus my skills on bridal makeup and workshops for hair and makeup to school students and private clients. This is where a simple love for teaching sprouted my new accomplishment of opening up Carla Brown Makeup and Beauty Academy a private ITEC Internationally accredited training facility offering Full and Part-Time Courses in Makeup and Beauty.
In addition to my makeup artistry and teachings, I own my very own beauty salon in Claremont called Carla Brown Makeup and Beauty. We offer a range of treatments including Makeup Artistry and Hair Styling for occasions, Nail systems, Facials, Waxing, Manicures and Pedicures, Threading, Massages,Slimming Wraps in the Cape Town area.
I continue to do bridal hair and makeup on a regular basis and freelance work for magazines and host makeup workshops. I am constantly striving to improve my skills and keep up to date with current trends so that I can offer the best possible service to all of my clients and students.
